The natural swimming pools of Tenerife are among the most original experiences that the island offers visitors. Formed by volcanic lava which cooled on contact with the Atlantic Ocean, these natural pools allow you to swim in calm sea water, protected from waves, while enjoying a spectacular setting.
Whether you are looking for a developed family spot or a wild cove, this guide details the best places by geographical area, with practical information: access, best time, parking, security. Ideal for preparing your stay in Tenerife.
Tenerife has more than 70 natural pools (charcos) spread across its coasts. Unlike classic beaches, these swimming pools offer safe swimming even when the sea is rough. They are particularly popular with families, snorkeling enthusiasts and travelers looking for authenticity.
Most are free, accessible on foot or by car, and can be visited all year round thanks to the island's mild climate. Be careful, however: the sea weather remains decisive. Check the sea risk before you leave — the TenerifePulse app displays the swim_risk in real time for each area.
This region concentrates some of the most emblematic spots on the island.
Located in the heart of the charming town of Garachico, El Caletón is one of the best-known sets of natural swimming pools on the island. Formed during the volcanic eruption of 1706, it includes several pools of different sizes, including one suitable for children.

A little further east, this charco offers several pools surrounded by black volcanic rocks in a preserved setting.

In the far west of the island, in the Teno Rural Park, Punta de Teno offers coves and small wild swimming areas in a spectacular cliff landscape.
Best time: Morning — be careful, road access is regulated on certain days (shuttle from Buenavista del Norte obligatory).
