Adeje is the name that designates both an authentic old mountain village and the luxury seaside resort that has developed on its coast. Costa Adeje concentrates Tenerife's 5-star hotels, gourmet restaurants, and water parks. But the village of Adeje itself, a 10-minute drive up in the heights, is another world — quiet streets, colonial church, hikers heading for the Barranco del Infierno.
Good to know: If you're staying in Costa Adeje, take an hour to head up to the old village of Adeje — it's the real Tenerife just 10 minutes from your poolside.
Barranco del Infierno — The most famous hike in the south. Wild gorge with a hidden waterfall at the end of 4 km. Online reservation required (quota of 300 people/day). €8. Departure from the old village of Adeje.
Costa Adeje — Developed seafront, golden sand beaches (Playa del Duque, Playa de Fañabé), gourmet restaurants. Playa del Duque is the most beautiful and least crowded.
Siam Park — Water park voted best in the world several years running. Water slides, artificial waves, Thai-style complex. €35-40. Book online (often full in summer).
Sioux City (optional) — Kitschy western park but popular with children. 15 minutes by car.
El Molino Blanco — Traditional Canarian cuisine in an old mill. One of the few authentic restaurants in the tourist area. €20-30/person.
Mercado del Agricultor (Adeje village) — Local producers on Saturday mornings. Goat cheese, avocados, bananas, honey.
