The last town before the road turns into a track toward the Teno cliffs, Buenavista del Norte marks the border between inhabited Tenerife and wild Tenerife. The quiet historic center, free of tourist trappings, mostly serves as a base camp: this is where the shuttles and trails to Punta de Teno, the island's westernmost tip, and to isolated black-sand beaches like Playa de las Arenas depart from.
The trick: Private cars are banned at Punta de Teno during regulated hours. Take TITSA bus 369 from Buenavista station (~20 min, ~€1) or a taxi. In summer (21/06–30/09) service is roughly 8am–8pm; the rest of the year more like 10am–7pm. Same-day times are on titsa.com.
Buenavista del Norte sits at the foot of the Teno massif, one of the oldest on the island (6-8 million years). The contrast is immediate between the modest urban fabric of the center and the cliffs plunging into the Atlantic just a few kilometers away. The town remains little visited by mass tourism, making it an authentic stopover before heading toward Teno Alto or Masca.
West of town, the road (or shuttle) leads to Punta de Teno: a historic lighthouse, marine reserve, basalt cliffs. To the north, Playa de las Arenas unrolls its volcanic black sand far from the crowds, with no tourist infrastructure — bring your own shade and water.
