Los Cristianos is one of the oldest fishing villages in the south, transformed into a lively beach resort without ever losing its soul. Unlike the artificial neighboring Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos preserves a local market, authentic streets, and an active fishing port. It's also the departure point for ferries to La Gomera (45 min) and El Hierro — the neighboring, almost wild islands.
Good to know: Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas blend together geographically but have very different vibes. Los Cristianos side = families and European retirees. Américas side = youth and nightlife. Choose according to your profile.
Ferry to La Gomera — From the port, Fred Olsen operates 3-4 crossings daily (45 min, €35 return). La Gomera is a green and wild island, virtually free from mass tourism. An unforgettable day trip.
Playa de Los Cristianos — Golden sand beach sheltered from the wind, calm sea. Ideal for families and swimming. Full facilities (showers, sun loungers, lifeguards).
Fishing Port — Every morning around 7am, fishermen unload their catch. Authentic atmosphere, opportunity to buy directly.
Local Market (Sunday) — Mixed market in the municipal park. Crafts, clothing, local products. Arrive early.
Port Restaurants — Ultra-fresh fish, honest prices. Avoid plastic menus in English. Prefer establishments frequented by Spanish locals at midday.
Artisanal Ice Cream Shop — Handmade ice cream with Canarian flavors (prickly pear, palm honey). On the waterfront.
