Mirador La Corona offers one of the most iconic views in Tenerife: the La Orotava valley in all its splendor, with Teide in the background. This panorama has been reproduced in countless paintings and engravings since the 18th century — European explorers (including Humboldt) described it as one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
The La Orotava valley is a natural amphitheater of greenery that descends in terraces from the laurel forests down to the seafront, with the red roofs of the town of La Orotava in the foreground.
Ideal in the morning before clouds rise from the coast (often from 11am onwards). In winter, Teide is sometimes snow-capped — a rare spectacle from down below. This viewpoint is often combined with a visit to the historic center of La Orotava (10 min by car downhill).
Below are the intense green banana terraces, white villages clinging to the slopes, the sea with La Gomera in the distance on clear days. The light changes: in the morning it illuminates the sea from behind, in the evening it warms the terraces. Clouds often cling to the cliffs, giving the landscape relief.
The view extends from Pico del Teide to the east as far as Garachico to the west. The port of Puerto de la Cruz is visible below, boats like white dots on the blue.
The trick: Come in late afternoon. The warm light on the banana plantations is most beautiful.
