The Acantilados de los Gigantes (Giants' Cliffs) are one of the most impressive geological formations in Europe. These black volcanic cliffs rise 300–600 meters above the Atlantic Ocean over several kilometers of coastline. Viewed from the village of Los Gigantes or from the sea, they are breathtaking.
The area is also a whale and dolphin sanctuary — dolphins and pilot whales (calderones) live year-round in these warm waters. Daily boat excursions depart from Los Gigantes port to observe them.
- From the Mirador Los Gigantes — free panoramic view, 5-minute walk from the port
- By boat — 2-hour excursion to approach the cliffs from the sea and spot whales and dolphins
The boat excursion is far superior to the view from above for grasping the true scale of the cliffs. Choose a catamaran rather than a speedboat — more stable and quieter for the dolphins. Morning (9am–11am) is the best time to spot pilot whales.
