Mirador de San Pedro is one of the most accessible and least touristy viewpoints in northern Tenerife. Located in the municipality of Los Realejos, it offers a breathtaking panorama of the wild north coast, cascading banana tree terraces, and Puerto de la Cruz on clear days. A hidden gem — the vast majority of tourists pass by without knowing it exists, even though hikers and locals know it well. Protected landscape of the Rambla de Castro, it makes an ideal starting point for a short hike to Puerto de la Cruz or to Los Roques beach.
It's also one of the best places to watch the sunset over the Atlantic without the crowds of popular sites.
Arrive 45 minutes before sunset. The golden light transforms the banana terraces and sea into a golden masterpiece. Excellent restaurant on site.
From San Pedro you see it all: vibrant green banana plantations below, intermediate terraces with vines and vegetables, La Orotava on the slope, Puerto de la Cruz on the coast, the Atlantic. On clear days La Gomera appears on the horizon. The Spaniards who discovered this landscape in the 16th century called it "el vergel" — the orchard.
What you see isn't fixed. The boundary between agricultural zones and urban development slowly descends. Puerto de la Cruz creeps upward, the banana plantations retreat.
The trick: Come early in the morning. The light is soft and mist often still lingers over the sea.
