Every year during Holy Week, brotherhoods in penitents' robes carry pasos — carved floats depicting scenes of the Passion — through the colonial lanes of La Orotava, La Laguna and Santa Cruz. La Orotava hosts the most elaborate processions. On Thursday evening, the Procession of Silence unfolds without music or speeches: only the flames of torches and the sound of footsteps on cobblestones.
La Orotava is the beating heart of Canarian Semana Santa. Each evening of the week, brotherhoods in penitent robes carry floats (pasos) depicting scenes of the Passion of Christ.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosts spectacular nighttime processions, notably on Good Friday with the paso del Cristo de La Laguna.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna (UNESCO): the colonial streets of the historic center transform into a natural setting for processions full of emotion.
