Los Abrigos is the best-kept secret of southern Tenerife: a small fishing port that has resisted mass tourism, with a handful of restaurants serving fish caught that very morning.
Good to know: Restaurants open at noon and close when the fish runs out — often around 4pm. Arrive before 1:30pm in summer to get a table.
Just 10 minutes from the airport and yet a world away from the southern resort complexes, Los Abrigos clings to its fishing village identity. Boats return in the morning, the auctions happen late morning, and restaurateurs pick their fish directly from the quay.
The main street runs alongside the port for 200 meters. This is where all the restaurants are concentrated, each one different, each one excellent.
The specialty: vieja (local parrotfish), grilled over charcoal and served with mojo verde and papas arrugadas. Shrimp and lobster are also caught locally.
Price: expect 18-28€ per person for a full meal with local wine.
