The Mirador Pico del Inglés (992m) is the most spectacular viewpoint in the Anaga laurel forest, designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. On clear days, the view encompasses the entire Anaga peninsula, Santa Cruz, La Gomera and, on beautiful days, Gran Canaria. When clouds play below, the sea of clouds effect is breathtaking.
It's the ideal starting point for exploring the Anaga massif, one of the oldest mountain ranges in Tenerife and one of the best-preserved ecosystems in the Canaries.
The best time is early morning (before 10am) or late afternoon. At midday, clouds often cover the viewpoint. The access road (TF-12) is narrow and winding — drive slowly. The bar/restaurant at the viewpoint is a good stop for a coffee or a drink.
The trade winds push low clouds against the Anaga ridges. Sometimes the forest is in the clouds and the viewpoint pokes its head above. This often happens in summer between 10am and 2pm. In winter the sky is more often clear but it's cold. Both versions are worth it: with sea of clouds or without. Don't leave disappointed if it's white — it's beautiful too.
The tip: Head up around 11am in summer. The probability of a sea of clouds is highest then.
