Las Teresitas, the iconic beach of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, owes its golden appearance to a bold decision made in 1973: importing 270,000 tonnes of Saharan sand from the coasts of Western Sahara. The result is striking, 1.3 kilometres of fine honey-coloured sand framed by the green hills of San Andrés and imposing palm trees. An underwater breakwater protects the bay, creating a naturally calm body of water even in rough seas: perfect for families with young children or beginner swimmers. The beach has changing rooms, showers, parasol and sunbed rental, and several fresh fish restaurants by the sea. Lifeguard posts in season. Bus 910 from Santa Cruz (15 minutes) or free parking behind the beach. It's the weekend beach for Santa Cruzeros, arrive before 10am in July-August.

Arrive before 10am to get a good spot, especially on weekends. The western part, towards the village of San Andrés, is generally less crowded. Several small beachfront restaurants across the way serve excellent fresh fish and seafood.
