El Médano is the wind capital of Tenerife, and that's precisely what makes it unique. The thermal wind descending from Montaña Roja each afternoon creates kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions sought after by international riders: PWA championships (World Tour) regularly take place here. The beach itself stretches two kilometers long, with golden sand and an authentic village atmosphere that the large southern resorts don't have. In the morning, before the wind picks up, the sea is calm and swimming is pleasant. After 1 PM, conditions change dramatically, perfect for sports enthusiasts, less ideal for families with young children. The village of El Médano retains its fish restaurants, tapas bars, and lively town square. For peaceful swimming, prefer the mornings or opt for the nearby Playa La Tejita, which offers better shelter.
