Playa de El Médano is the beach in the heart of El Médano town: lined with outdoor bars and restaurants, this is where locals come to swim, especially in the morning when the sea is calm. After 1 PM, the wind picks up and the atmosphere changes, but the beach remains first and foremost a swimming and relaxation spot, not a surfing destination. The village retains its fish restaurants, tapas bars and lively square just behind the beach. Parking is available in town or nearby, easier than at Playa del Médano (Playa Grande) just a short distance away, where kitesurf and windsurfing competitions take place. For an even more sheltered swim, also consider Playa Chica, a tiny cove near Muelle Público, or Playa La Tejita behind Montaña Roja.
