Playa de San Juan

San Juan is one of the best-preserved fishing villages on the west coast. Its small black pebble beach may not impress with its size, but the vibrant port atmosphere makes it a top-notch gastronomic stop. Fishing boats return in the morning, and waterfront restaurants serve the day's catch on terraces overlooking the water. For fine dining on the west coast, head to El Rincón de Juan Carlos (2 Michelin stars) at Royal Hideaway Corales Resort in La Caleta, about twenty minutes away. The village itself is pleasant to explore on foot: white-washed streets, bustling port, local bakery. Swimming is possible in calm seas, though water can be rough depending on the season. Take bus 473 from Los Cristianos. An ideal stop for lunch when heading to or returning from Masca Gorges or Los Gigantes. Book ahead if you're counting on the best restaurants.
