Playa de Martiánez

Playa de Martiánez is the town beach of Puerto de la Cruz: roughly 350 metres long and 40 wide, a mix of black volcanic sand and callaos, the round pebbles polished by the Atlantic. It runs along Avenida de Colón, just north of Lago Martiánez, the seawater pool complex designed by César Manrique. Unlike Playa Jardín, no breakwater shelters it: the northern swell reaches the shore directly, which makes it a well-known spot for surfers and bodyboarders and makes swimming dependent on the state of the sea that day. Showers, foot washes and adapted access are in place, and bars and restaurants line the promenade. The town centre and the bus station are a few minutes away on foot.
